Habitat is a full-of-heart bakery, with a passion for providing delicious, home baked treats for those with special dietary needs.

This project was made in collaboration with Moodism Creative Atelier. This overview displays our contributions to the project.

A brand inspired by the home, heritage and tradition.

For the founder of the brand, countless hours spent baking with her grandmothers marked the beginning of a lifelong love that would result in Habitat. As someone deeply rooted in family life, and her Afrikaans heritage, the idea of homeliness and tradition where non negotiable in the development of the branding.

We were heavily influenced by Cape Dutch architecture, as represented by the gable motif used in the logo and branding, as well as the main logo type, inspired by the beautiful serif type we saw on several historical architectural drawings. We combined these ideas with imperfect lines and a handwritten accent font to create a rustic, yet elegant feeling inspired by tradition.

Using recycled materials to our advantage.

While Habitat might be inspired by heritage, it is also their aim to do what they can to preserve the future. We wanted to take a more sustainable approach to the packaging, while still wanting to keep things simple and achievable for a small operation.

When we settled on recycled plastic, our supplier mentioned that recycled plastic can often have a cloudy and uneven appearance, however we felt characteristic actually worked well with our packaging concept, which was intended to feel more home-spun, warm and rustic.
